Didn’t they say the science was settled? Weren’t we called “deniers” for doubting?
A new NASA study says that an increase in Antarctic snow accumulation that began 10,000 years ago is currently adding enough ice to the continent to outweigh the increased losses from its thinning glaciers.
The research challenges the conclusions of other studies, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) 2013 report, which says that Antarctica is overall losing land ice.
One of the great truths that underpinned the Enlightenment was that all knowledge is provisional and that doubt is the key to greater wisdom.
It is a very dangerous development intellectually to now see “sceptic” turned into a label of abuse.

Abby,
Ed Nita asked for my two cents.
This “99% of (all?) scientists agree” is lying fact-free fake news MSM propaganda bull crap.
This all started with the Doran and Zimmerman survey. They sent out 10,500 questionnaires. About 3,000 were returned. They thought that was great. I think that’s a joke. It means 7,500 went in the trash. But they only wanted to hear from self-identified “climate scientists” and that dropped the number to about 500. Then they only wanted to hear from “climate scientists” actively researching and publishing in that field (at this point insert getting paid.) which dropped the number to 77 – 75 of whom thought the evidence compelling, i.e. 97%.
It’s in their paper’s abstract.
But science does not care about consensus or popular opinion or surveys.
In the not too distant past consensus included phlogiston, luminiferous ether, trepanning, leeches/bleeding, humors, spontaneous generation, etc. all of which turned out wrong.
Science cares not who you are nor who you know nor how many initials follow your name.
Science cares whether you have done the homework, followed the rules and got it right.
Seems from the non-science replies that ignore my points most have no idea what I am talking about because they have not done the homework and don’t “got” none of it!
Here they are again. Detailed posts can be found on my LinkedIn site.
1) 33 C warmer – wrong
2) 333 W/m^2 GHG energy loop – nonsense
3) 396 W/m^2 BB upwelling LWIR – not possible
1+2+3 = 0 RGHE & 0 GHG warming & 0 CAGW.

I would never say that man doesn’t contribute to global warming but I would say that our contribution is almost infinitesimal. Maybe be…. maybe we contribute 1/10 of 1% of the change. The earth is going to do what it’s going to do regardless of what man does. Now, I’m not saying that man could not poison the planet to where it is unlivable. But even that would be corrected eventually by Mother Earth.

Where do you get 1/10 of 1%? Just taking a guess? I’d like to see people getting these numbers from science and research, not guessing. And 99% of scientists agree that the climate is changing drastically due to human influence.

Abby Leatherman,
that figure is actually 97%, and not the 99% you mention here, and it has been highlighted so many times over the years that it has now become ‘The Truth’.
That figure originally came from a survey conducted in 2009, by two researchers from The University of Illinois. They surveyed 10,257 Earth Scientists. When they got back whatever results they did get back, they then selected a sub group of 77 of that original number of 10,257. From that tiny sub group, they then highlighted the fact that 75 of them ‘thought’ that humans contributed to Climate Change.
So, do the pretty simple math here. 75 of 77 equates to 97%, and that’s where that figure came from.
So 97% of scientists
agreethink humans contribute to climate change.Repeat a manufactured fake fact often enough and it becomes the truth.
But hey, it must be true, You believe it, eh!
Tony.
