Sometimes, a truly beautiful song sneaks up out of left field, and this one of those songs. Bonnie Raitt had a long career of almost 20 years before becoming what some people might impolitely term an ‘overnight success’, or so it would seem. That ‘overnight success’ was when she crossed over into the mainstream, but prior to that, she had a wonderful career with two Gold Albums and commercially successful music, mainly from the Blues, Folk, and some Country.

She is a renowned guitarist and a wonderful exponent of ‘bottleneck’ playing, a distinct guitar sound all of its own, and she was one of the very few women respected for their guitar playing, and she was called upon by numerous artists to play on their albums.

Her major successes came with the release of her tenth album in 1989, ‘Nick Of Time’, which was a Number One album, went multi platinum, and swept the Grammy Awards in early 1990. She followed this album with two more monsters, ‘Luck Of The Draw’ and ‘Longing In Their Hearts’, both also going to Number One, also multi platinum, and also garnering her more Grammy Awards.

She has produced 15 studio albums in all in a career spanning 35 years, has won nine Grammy’s and has been inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame.

This beautiful song, ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ is from 1991 and is from the middle album of her three monsters, ‘Luck Of The Draw.’

She has a way of taking lyrics and twisting them right into your heart, so the quote goes.
