Australian Politics – Labor Party Fail: If Solar Power Is The Cheapest, Why The Need For Subsidies?

Here in Australia, the Labor Party’s Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, environmental spokesman Mark Butler:

The cheapest and cleanest replacement power generation is renewable energy.

That’s, of course, ignoring the effect it has on the rest of the system, which must supply 24-hour, reliable power.

But wait. If renewables really are the cheapest, why do households and generators need handouts from taxpayers to install them?

Labor will offer a rebate of up to $2,000 for households earning less than $180,000 to install residential battery systems … The measures involve government underwriting of new renewable generation…[and] an injection of funds for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

And all this spending for no effect on the global temperature. What a farce
