Gay Marriage Australia – But The Bullying Is Exactly What They Love

Rowan Dean:

First, a declaration. I have long supported the idea that gay couples should be allowed to be joined for life with all the equal rights, recognition and dignity that any heterosexual couple or de facto couple enjoy under the law….

But then a strange thing happened… Next came the bullying… Then came the neo-Marxist gender assault on our children… Then came the explosion outside a Christian organisation, allegedly the work of a gay activist. Enough said…

Then came the outright hatred.

There is something sinister on the move. This isn’t really above love for many activists, is it?

I am reminded afresh of of what author and theologian CS Lewis famously noted:

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Or as Bertrand Russell put it:

Much that passes as idealism is disguised hatred or disguised love of power.

We may complain about the bullying, hoping to shame the activists. But the bullying is exactly what they love.
