Here in Australia, the Queensland State Government has set up an Expert Panel Inquiry to investigate pathways to achieving a 50% renewable energy target by 2030.
This is the website they have set up for the public to keep them informed and where the public can also contribute.
Queensland Renewable Energy Expert Panel
I live here in Queensland, in Rockhampton, a city which is 640 Kilometres (400 Miles) to the North of the State Capital Brisbane, so this Inquiry is in my own back yard.
For more than eight years now I have been writing about how Renewable power cannot be used to replace those methods of generating power, and here this means large scale coal fired power, which provides, of most importance, a reliable source of electrical power, which is available on a constant basis, something which renewable power just cannot do.
The Panel is calling for Submissions from the public, so what better way for me to contribute than to make a Submission to that Panel.
I spent some time compiling a Submission and then sent it to the Panel in mid May, and Submissions close on June 10th.
The Panel will be holding public meetings and they are Invitation only events in cities around the State of Queensland.
While the Panel has called for Submissions from the public, those Submissions will not be made public until after the Panel releases it’s interim report in late August or September.
Having made the Submission, it seems curious, for me, anyway, that those Submissions will not be made available for the public to see until after the interim report is delivered. I asked a representative of the Panel if I was allowed to make my Submission available for anyone to read in the interim, and they said that would be okay, as it was my own Submission.
I can do this by posting it at our home site here, and then informing my friends of its availability here
My Submission is at the following link, and this is a 15 page pdf document.
SUBMISSION FOR QUEENSLAND 50% RENEWABLE TARGET BY 2030
In that Submission, Page 1 is some personal information about me, Page 2 is a Summary of the Submission, and the remaining 13 pages are the Submission itself.
Now, while it may seem long and involved, I had to build the argument from the ground up, trying to cover as many bases as possible to explain how something like this would be problematic at best, and impossible at worst.
One of the most important aspects of this whole thing is shown in the following image, which is a breakdown of the power generation here in the State of Queensland. (if you click n the image, it will open in a new and larger window)
Note here on the right hand bar graph, (Generation output) coal fired power currently supplies 73% of Queensland’s total power, and when combined with other fossil fuelled sources, here mainly Natural gas Fired Power, that total is 93% of all generated electrical power.
So, if this target of 50% renewable power is to be achieved, then that fossil fuelled source needs to be reduced to 50%, and as coal fired power is the aimed for target here, then that means a reduction in that coal fired sector from 73% to 30%. So here the aim is to find renewable replacements for that 43%, almost half of all Queensland’s power generation.
In my Submission, I explain just how difficult this would be, and to achieve a mix of those renewable power plants, wind Power, Solar PV, and Concentrating Solar Power, also referred to as Solar Thermal Power, I explain how 67 of these renewable power plants would have to be built, in the required time frame, between now and 2030. That’s having them planned, financed, constructed, and delivering power by 2030. All of that to replace the closure of just 5 large scale coal fired power plants.
I urge you to take take the time and read my Submission to see how difficult it would be to implement what might seem on the surface to be a target which might be readily achieved, but in fact is close to impossible to actually achieve.
In the U.S. the total power generated from coal fired power is currently only 35%, for the sake of comparison, but in the U.S. they have large scale Nuclear Power, which we do not have here in Australia, and is not likely in the near or even middle future. Those large scale Nuclear plants provide the same huge amounts of regular stable and constant power provided by large scale coal fired power. When you add Nuclear power (19.5%) to coal fired power (35%) and then add in other Fossil Fuelled sources (nearly all of it Natural gas fired power) which supply 34%, then the similar total for the U.S. comes in at almost 85.5%, which is almost on par with Queensland. (93%)
While my Submission is long, I urge you all to read it, and see how something like this may be almost impossible to achieve.

I admire your work Tony – I lost my job at another QLD coal-fired Power station back in 2012 thanks to Julia Gillard’s infamous carbon tax, that she LIED about to win the election. However, despite your heroic effort, I’m sorry but I have to say that I think you’re wasting your time. Your excellent submission will be filed in that round filing cabinet usually located near or blow someone’s desk…
The leftist AGW advocates don’t like anyone questioning the narrative. ALL fossil fuels and capitalism that they enable must be eliminated as far as they’re concerned and that includes our ‘democratic’ Australian government.
The way things are headed, dissent will soon be illegal and to question the narrative of anthropogenic climate change, will attract serious penalties. In fact, as you’re almost undoubtedly already aware: they very recently tried to pass such a (totalitarian) law in California USA, but they were a bit slow (this time). It won’t deter them from trying again and very soon too, of course.
The only positive I can think of about this disgusting attempt to introduce Stalinism over the climate change HOAX, is that if they feel they have to resort to enacting laws to silence free speech, especially in the ‘GREAT US of A’ – the ‘land of the free’, they obviously have something to hide from us.
They’re panicking and all sceptics (or AGW / CC Deniers they prefer to label us), should focus on that and point out the fact that they are worried; that the TRUTH about it will be revealed.
It’s time to EXPOSE this MASSIVE FRAUD for what it is, to the world and the TRUTH behind it all, or it WILL destroy the free world as we know it and the great lifestyles we currently take for granted. I am already a victim of this vile agenda and there are many more Australians in the same (sinking) lifeboat with me.
Keep up the good work Tony, I applaud you.

Thanks Alan,
I thought to myself ….. how easy would it be to ignore this, as there’s no way they can implement it, no matter how much they think they can, just by political will. After some further thought, I said ….. why not tell them just why it can’t be done. Something like this (my Submission) will go on the public record, and if it doesn’t, there are now others who have seen this Submission, and know it’s out there. They can ignore what I have, and pass it off, but it’s out there now. It will niggle away at them that someone knows it can’t be done, and has said so ….. and then explained just why, with no politics involved. There must be someone somewhere advising these politicians that this can’t be done, and they’re just flat out ignoring it. Either way, we’ll see sooner or later.
Again, thanks for your kind words.
Tony.

Thanks Tony,
I wished I could share your optimism over this. However, our corrupt AGW hoax advocating government will probably laugh at your submission… They are not only corrupt they are also amazingly and infuriatingly STUPID.
You and countless others, including some prominent MSM personalities, have tried to lay the bare facts at their feet only to be ignored, or even scapegoated (for their dissenting views).
Well they all laughed at Noah when he built that huge wooden boat…
Problem is they will be ok, while they power their lavish homes and lifestyles with their LIMITED ‘green’ or renewable energy sources, leaving the rest of us struggling to survive in Paleo-era conditions… This is no exaggeration either – It was very convenient that Tony Abbott was kicked out at precisely the right time for them – just prior to the Paris
Communist PartyClimate Summit…Honestly Tony, they don’t care about us. Nor about the global warming that ISN’T happening. They have a totally different agenda which has little, if anything to do with climate variation. Global warming or their ‘save the planet’ false ideology is merely a trojan horse that people are already starting to realize and now they are WORRIED! They are grasping at straws, i.e. making ridiculously loud and alarmist AGW claims over regular, normal events such as recent coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef, which generally follows the El-Nino / La-Nina migration patterns. (I.e. nothing to do with us burning coal in power stations that they so pathetically insist was the cause, therefore we must completely BAN coal within the next 20 years).
If you listen to these climate change advocates on the radio or TV you can literally hear the FEAR in their voices – almost panicking to push their pseudo-scientifically founded, fake claims into the minds of the naive public.
Meanwhile people like you and I are almost never given the opportunity to even speak publicly about it.
I love Australia, it’s a true democracy…

Well done, Tony. I have read your submission, but whether it reaches deep into the panel’s consciousness remains to be seen. However, I’m not sure all the information in your ‘preamble’ page should have been included.
If pages 2 to 15 could be printed in the local rag (TMB) it might have the effect of raising the awareness of many more people – serialised, over a number of editions, perhaps?
That would also bring out the trolls in great numbers, but it might go a long way towards countering the disinformation that is bandied about by the ‘talking heads’ / ‘writing fingers’ fraternity. One has only to peruse the vitriol directed towards any of Viv Forbes letters to observe that result, so perhaps you don’t need it at this time in your life.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks BL
The information on that first page is background information only, and right at the top, as they asked, is the proviso that this page is not for publication. They asked for it to be presented that way, and marked not for publication.
For years now, I have ventured onto sites trying to explain things, and I’ve received virtually wall to wall ‘flaming’ for doing that. I look upon that as an indication that I have made the point. Those who read what I have and take it in, and see the point, rarely is ever, reply, and I know that. Those flamers who do reply also get seen by those who do not reply, who then take it in, further reinforcing that if they are so vitriolic in their flaming, usually personal and often not even addressing the points I made, then I must be hitting the mark. I don’t need to bite back. The facts I present make my case.

Onya, Tony!
I have been toying with the idea of writing a letter to the editor of TMB, comparing Wind and Solar as being akin to the farmer who needs to pump water for household and stock use (using a normal windmill with solar pump back-up) – but doesn’t install a tank, of any size, for when the wind doesn’t blow and the clouds are too thick. He does have, however, a nice china teacup hooked over the end of the supply pipe on a piece of #8 wire – so that he may obtain sustenance should either supply method be working.
Without a large tank for the back-up supply, his stock die – and so might he.
I see wind and solar and the disparagement of base load coal power from this point of view.
I write with some experience – my neighbour has had many occasions to call upon me to pump water to fill his tank for his cattle (my bore line is interconnected with his mill line) when we hit certain low wind/no wind months during the year – and this happens every year, without fail.
I would have thought our most recent cyclone would have awoken many people – but I fear not.
Needless to say, I am very conscious of water usage and keep tank water as reserve when unable to pump bore water for household and stock usage.
Also have plenty of generators (back-up for back-up, you know) to ensure life is liveable in such situations – a far cry from the first 4 years of my working life when lighting was by carbide lamp (explosive little beasties), no refrigeration, cooking done on a third of a 44 gallon drum with scavenged timber and two 44s of water, one for cooking/drinking and one for washing (supplemented by the nearest trough, dam or river) and accommodation was in tents or sometimes old tin covered caravans. No portable toilets, either!
Living off the land was sometimes necessary when flooded in and tucker was running out.
Never saw any of this as ‘hardship’ – unlike these days when I can’t afford to use a heater in winter and am loath to use fans unless absolutely necessary, due to the ever increasing cost of power… and my elderly body would really appreciate some of these luxuries, sometimes.
Keep hammering away, Tony – I know it is a brick wall and your forehead bleeds profusely – but your efforts must pay off eventually.
Don’t hog all the rain to your side of the river – feel free to let some of it come over this side, any time you feel like so doing.
Kind regards,
Brian.
P.S. for Alan V.
I’m a ‘lurker’, Alan. I agree with your comments. Very little critical thought by people these days – just believe what the MSM spouts, then parrot it. Very few with the life skills to observe, observe, observe – and make notes (for when memory ultimately fails).
I try to keep up with what everyone is writing, not so much what is on the idiot box and seldom on radio. I must also confess to feelings of ‘finger anger’ at some of the garbage TMB prints – but I only get the papers on a weekly basis (Fridays) so would be too slow to respond. ABC news copped a serve yesterday, 7:30 Report received some hard questions/comments this morning and the NBN Co. is occupying too much of my time as I dismantle some of their disinformation to me.

And that’s our biggest challenge BL, they go to ridiculous extremes to ensure our dissent is kept out of the main stream media, including local papers like the Morning Bulletin. They are terrified of the truth about this MASSIVE hoax – the biggest in the history of civilisation, being let out of the bag.
However there are a few who are brave enough to effectively thumb their noses at the Climate Change Hoax peddlers – famous Sydney radio station 2GB’s breakfast presenter, Alan Jones for instance.
You can also Google say: ‘alan jones climate change’ and find articles (especially recent ones), that clearly show them trying to discredit him, but all it tells me is that he is making them very nervous. 😀
They are clearly very angry that he’s been allowed to continue voicing (very loudly and publicly), his dissenting views for so long.
Anger is probably the most accurate barometer you could use to measure the TRUTH and certainly a million times more reliable than their fudged computer ‘climate models’…
Not only is Jones courageous, he’s also up to speed with public broadcasting legislation, thus at present, what he’s doing is perfectly legal. They haven’t silenced free speech in Oz…. YET.

Chinese family and factory are paying only 8% per kilowatt of electricity than Australian family and factory is paying. For every $300 paid in Australia for electricity; in China is paid $24 in yuan money worth – electricity produced by Australian coal #2: on the other hand, Australian family and business are paying 1200% more, for electricity produced here by solar panels ”made in china” = it’s same as if people in Ecuador and Congo were producing ice for the Eskimos. THAT IS ”WARMIST ECONOMICS” #3: penalty for treason should be doubled, retrospective. Please pas this message to anybody promoting ”renewable rip-off”
