The new revelation that the IRS has “lost” nearly two years worth of Lois Lerner’s emails makes the Watergate scandal seem like a bedtime story compared to this new horror that the Obama administration is attempting to perpetrate on the American public. Who is going to believe the Lerner emails and the emails of some other key players have been “lost”? Those emails that just happen to cover the crucial time periods in question? Really? Lost ’em? …But it‘s been so long ago now…the time period the Tea Party and other conservative groups were targeted / harassed and even considered for prosecution–OOPS, “persecution.”
REALLY? The dog ate it?
If it is not past time for a special prosecutor, there never will be a time. This situation cries out for a special prosecutor. “Cover-up” is being shouted from the highest mountain top so loud even a deaf man could hear it. After this, even the liberals (should) have to admit there’s something rotten in the closet. But no, many will say with a straight face : “Nope, ’don’t smell a thing….”
The Watergate special prosecutor, Archibald Cox was appointed by then Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Cox did a credible and ethical job. The Obama administration has shown itself to be neither credible nor ethical and the current Attorney General has shown himself to be of the same ilk with such testimony he gave in the “Fast and Furious” (yet another) scandal and his refusal to prosecute the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation at the polls, citing in that case “lack of evidence” even in the face of a video documenting the offense, and other cases which seem to paint him as Obama’s lap dog, thus there is a question as to whether he could be relied upon to appoint a special prosecutor that would do the job in as ethical and neutral a way as Mr. Cox did back then.
The Republicans aren’t blameless here. It seems they have been just dancing around this for over a year and really not going anywhere with it. Rep. Dave Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has said in regards to this newest IRS scandal “The fact that I am just learning about this, over a year into the investigation, is completely unacceptable and now calls into question the credibility of the IRS’s response to Congressional inquiries. “There needs to be an immediate investigation and forensic audit by the department of Justice as well as the Inspector General.”

Of course he is right in the need for an immediate investigation and forensic audit, but what has Rep. Camp been drinking that it is only now it calls into question the credibility of the IRS? Please forgive the fact that this may seem picky but if Rep. Camp is just now recognizing the need for an immediate investigation into why the IRS has been dragging it’s feet, he is way behind the curve. So far behind the curve that he needed to be clubbed over the head with two years worth of missing emails to finally demand an immediate investigation. Of course he’s probably not that dumb, and just now questioning the credibility of the IRS and howling for an immediate investigation was probably just the politician in him speaking.
So, let’s get a special prosecutor (agreed to by both parties) , confiscate the computers in question, subpoena emails from all other relevant departments, tolerate no more stonewalling–go through the courts, and just get on with it.
