This may only be a short Post from Andrew, but it is well worth looking at.

The first link takes you to an article from 2007 which predicts that the Arctic may be free of ice by 2012, this year.

The second link is to the Watts Up With That site which comprehensively details the current (2012) extent of that ice, which is back to its normal amount. This second link may look complex with its many charts and images, but it does explain that Arctic ice extent runs in cycles and right now, that ice is back to normal levels. I suppose the scare campaign gets more coverage that the facts.

As to horrendous sea level rises mentioned in that first link, be aware that if all the ice in the Arctic were to melt it, would not raise sea levels at all, because that is sea ice, ice already floating in the Ocean, and Archimedes principle applies here. They cleverly insert the raising sea levels into this article, giving the false impression that this melting Arctic ice will cause those sea level rises, but you need to read the article carefully to understand the intent. There is the sensational claim that the melting ice, will cause sea level rise by up to 22 feet, but that is the ice on the Greenland Ice Sheet, which is also back at normal levels now.

A sea level rise of 22 feet. I wonder if anyone’s told that to Real Estate agents on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia, the premier tourist destination in Australia. That 22 feet rise will totally inundate the whole of that Gold Coast. Real Estate prices on the Gold Coast have indeed changed since this article came out in 2007. They have risen, and risen by quite a large amount. That’s odd……TonyfromOz

The prediction in 2007, the height of the Arctic ice scare:

This week, after reviewing his own new data, NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally said: “At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions.”

We are on scare alert and will be watching:
