This highlights the hypocrisy of this whole supposedly environmental debate. It is now being used for solely political purposes. The same will apply at Copenhagen. 192 Countries, each with large delegations and hangers on will fly in (and out) spending 11 days in conference and a couple of days either side of that. Accommodation, heating for the Northern Winter, catering, and every other sundry thing associated with the conference, and for all the people contributing in every other area. This will have the Carbon footprint equivalent to the total annual emissions of more than a dozen of those smaller Developing Countries. The biggest, most important part of the whole ‘gig’ will be something you won’t hear about ….. ‘Who is going to foot the bill for all of this’. Major leaders will look to grandstand on the World stage to enhance their image at home as good environmental shepherds for the one solitary purpose. To get their Carbon Tax Bills passed into law.
(Australian) PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd has called on world leaders to make bold decisions in the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Carbon dioxide emissions at One National Circuit, Barton, the home of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, went up by 17.4 per cent in the past 12 months, the period in which the Government was beating up political opponents of its climate policies…
The stumbling block was Mr Rudd’s penchant for racing around the country – and the world. The year-on-year jump in emissions, according to the department’s annual report, is largely due to a 64 per cent increase in the number of kilometres flown – more air travel, in other words.
