Sunday Music – Theme From A Summer Place

Today’s music video is ‘Theme From A Summer Place’, this version by Percy Faith and his Orchestra.

This song was written by Max Steiner in 1959, and was made as the theme for the movie of the same same starring Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee. The next year it was recorded by Percy Faith and became a monster hit for him when it spent nine weeks at Number One on the fledgling (for the time) Billboard Hot 100 Chart. It also won Percy Faith a Grammy Award, not as an Instrumental, but as the more prestigious Song Of The Year, the first time that a movie theme and also an Instrumental won that award.  The song has been ‘covered’ by numerous other artists and there is also a version with vocals, the most popular of these being sung by Andy Williams.

This is another case of a sublime piece of music proving its timelessness.
