Today’s music video is Everyone’s Waiting from Australian singer Missy Higgins.

This is Australian singer Melissa Higgins, (Missy) and this is her latest Single release. While music radio in the major centres of Australia is such a large thing with so many popular music radio stations, here where I live in Rockhampton, there’s nowhere near that large number of radio stations, nor the variety of new music that there is in those larger cities.
However, during the week, I heard this song, and even after the first couple of bars, I was already taking notice of it. The longer the song went, the more rapt I became. I hadn’t heard it before, and as is often the case with music on the radio, they sometimes play three or more songs without a break between them so sometimes you never get to hear the name of the artist singing the song. Because of that, I’ve trained myself to try and work out what the title of the song may be, often from the most used phrase of the song itself, and this way, I can always chase the song up at a later date. I worked out that it was called Everyone’s Waiting, but luckily, at the end of the song, the announcer came on and gave the title, and the name of the singer, Missy Higgins, and even that this was her new Single lifted from her latest album The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle.
All I had to do now was to chase the song up, and there it was at the You Tube site. I’ve played it each day now, and the more I hear it, the more I just love this song. So often these days new music is sometimes bland and has a certain sameness about it, and with all of that music, this song just stands out.
Missy Higgins has already had what can only be called a stellar career in the music industry here in Australia, and has even undertaken a World tour, and she lived and toured through the U.S. for ten Months in 2008.
She started out on classical piano at the age of 6 and was singing at the age of 12. While still at High School, and aged barely 18, she wrote a song for a Music Assignment. The song was entered in a contest for unsigned artists, and this song won that contest, and part of the prize was a recording contract.
Missy delayed that contract for a year or so, and then, in 2004, she released her first album, The Sound Of White, which, along with the first Single lifted from the album, Scar both went to Number One on their respective Album and Singles charts. Four Singles in all were lifted from that album, and they all charted. Two of them went into the Top Ten, and The Special Two made it to Number Two.
She released her second Album in 2007, and it also went straight to Number One, along with the first Single lifted from that, Steer. A second Single was released from that album, and it also made it into the Top Ten.
Her third and most recent Album actually debuted at Number One, and two Singles are still charting well from that.
Having now released just three albums, Missy now joins a select group of three Australian Female artists with Three Number One Albums, and those singers are Olivia Newton John, Kylie Minogue, and Delta Goodrem. Only one Australian female artist ranks higher than, and that is Kasey Chambers, who has 4 Number One albums. What makes Missy Higgins stand out from that group of fine artists is that Missy has only released those three albums.
Admitted, Australia is a much smaller market than the U.S. but just like you in the U.S. have the Grammies for music excellence, here in Australia we have the ARIA Awards, similar to the Grammies. With just her two earlier albums, and the Singles from them, Missy already has been awarded 7 ARIAs, an astounding accomplishment.
This song is such a wonderful song from a really wonderful Australian artist.
