It’s actually been like this for a year – a year in which Labor, in denial, threw away whatever chance it had of winning under a new leader. But here is this week’s assessment by Graham Richardson:
First, every poll tells us that the carbon tax is a deeply unpopular tax… Every price rise for months to come will be put down to the carbon tax. The debate has already been lost.
Indeed it was lost a long time ago. Even the concept of global warming itself is now a fading credo for Labor.,,
Prime Minister Julia Gillard is at that point where all she can do is wait for the end to come – and come it will. The only question now is whether the coup de grace will be delivered by the caucus or the Australian people.
From all that I can gather there would appear to be some shift towards Rudd but not enough for another challenge.
The collapse of the global warming cause is instructive.
Here is another cause which the Left adopted with a moral fervor which once again licensed its inner totalitarian. Labor felt entitled to lie, deceive, exaggerate and impose for the greater good, but when that good turned to trash, Labor was left looking merely sneaky, arrogant and extremely stupid.
