Out Of Work, Lost Savings, Etc.? Get Help Here!

Posted by papundits on 03/01/2009

For those who have been most grievously affected by the liberal agendas that seeded the housing and financial market crisis, those of you who have lost your job, had your income cut and your savings and retirement funds gutted, help is just a click away.

Visit the Federal Election Commission’s campaign finance disclosure page, and under the map, select the search criterion menu “Donor’s Name” and change that criterion to “Zip Code.” Enter your zip code and click “Go.” (This search may take up to a minute, so be patient.)

Once the search is complete, select the column to search by “Candidate Name,” and scroll down to see all the donors in your neighborhood who supported Obama.

Since they enabled Obama to redistribute your wealth, surely they would be willing to share some of their own to cover your expenses until Obama’s recovery plan has restored your job, your income, your savings and your retirement fund.

(Heck, you might even find, as I did, that one of your neighbors far exceeded the legal giving limits to Obama’s campaign.)

What Is A Green Building (Part 2)

Posted by TonyfromOz on 02/28/2009

office-power-usePART TWO OF THREE PARTS

This graph is from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) website and is indicative of electrical power use in office buildings. The graph is an old one, but is still close to what might be used in your everyday office building.

In yesterday’s post, I discussed the possible use of what is basically an old idea that might be used to assist in making our buildings ‘green’, if something like this really needs to be done at all.
So then, what are we looking at?

I have been trying to correct the misconception with regard to ‘Baseload’ power over the months, and the following will be a stark example of just that.

What I’m going to show you with this post is the electrical power consumed in just the Office buildings in the U.S.

Office buildings consume 8.5% of all the electrical power generated in the U.S.
Hey, that’s not all that much you might think.
On the contrary, so let’s look at that more closely then.

Remember, I’m only talking office buildings here.

How much is 8.5% of the total consumed power in the U.S.?

350 Billion KiloWattHours (KWH). I’ve converted it down to KWH, because when you look at your electrical power bill, the usage is expressed in KWH, and the average residential use for the U.S. is around 12,000 KWH.
So, using 350 Billion KWH each year, what then does that extrapolate back to?
That is the power produced by 25 of those large power plants of 2,000 MW nameplate capacity.

Hidden Cuts In Defense – What “O’s” Budget Won’t Reveal

Posted by papundits on 02/28/2009

20080114_carafano1

James Carafano, PhD

By all reports, when President Obama’s budget is released today, it will envision spending more money on defense. The figure thrown around most is an 8 percent increase over last year. But that doesn’t necessarily mean more money to support our men and women in uniform – and there’s good reason to fear otherwise.

The problem is, we won’t know the truth until the administration reveals its plans for “supplemental” funding.

When something happens “out of cycle,” like a war – which is not in any department’s budget – Congress pays for it by approving supplemental spending. It’s been doing just that ever since 9/11.

It made sense. Especially in the early going, it was hard to predict year-to-year what might be needed for operations in Afghanistan – and Iraq only added to the problem.

So, for the last eight years, you had to add the regular and supplemental defense appropriations together to figure out total Pentagon spending.

Bring Them All Home! (Well, Not Quite All)

Posted by papundits on 02/28/2009

Andrew BoltIT’S NOW 19 MONTHS – AND 50,000 LEFT OVER

Andrew Bolt

You mean you actually believed Barack Obama when he said US troops would be out of Iraq within 16 months of becoming President?

Q. Following that up, what is your schedule for withdrawing forces from Iraq? How fast would these withdrawals be carried out? What time frame?

A. [W]e believe that you can get one to two brigades out a month. At that pace, the forces would be out in approximately 16 months from the time that we began.

More fool you:

Amid complaints from has own party that he’s moving too slowly to end the war in Iraq, President Barack Obama will announce Friday that U.S. combat troops will be withdrawn by Aug. 31, 2010, but that as many as 50,000 Marines and soldiers would remain until the end of 2011.

It’s not as though you weren’t warned that Obama’s promise came with so many strings it was meaningless. Or that there’s plenty of other things he says that are not matched by what he does. But I guess it’s the way he says them,

THE FOUNDATION

“Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.” –John Adams

PATRIOT PERSPECTIVE

ObamaNation — The USSA

By Mark Alexander

Prior to the election of Barack Hussein Obama, some Republicans complained that identifying him as a socialist, which I have done since he announced his presidential aspirations, was “too extreme.” Shortly after his election, the same lot insisted, “He’s our president now. We should show him respect.”

It is notable, however, that I have not heard a single such complaint since BHO’s inauguration.

In fact, Newsweek magazine ran a cover story about Obama’s so-called “Recovery Act” legislation proclaiming, “We are all Socialists now.” Of course, because Newsweek is suffering from an acute case of revenue shortfall, a tabloid shock cover like the aforementioned is to be expected.

obama-irresponsibity
“The era of profound irresponsibility…”

But there is no shortfall of truth in my claim that the “stimulus bill” has much less to do with economic recovery than it does with, in Obama’s words, “the fundamental transformation of the United States of America.”

Obama is accomplishing this socialist transformation at lightning pace under cover of “responding to the economic crisis” in order to “save or create 3.5 million jobs.” (Note the clever construction “save or create,” which is to say that even if there is no net increase in jobs, he’ll still take credit for having saved 3.5 million jobs.)

Despite Obama’s claims, this ruse wasn’t a “crisis spending bill.” Nor does it provide “economic growth,” and it certainly has no legitimate “bipartisan support,” with only three RINO senators from among 219 Republican legislators having been swayed by BHO’s incessant fearmongering.

In fact, some Republican and Democrat governors have since calculated the costs associated with accepting the redistribution of “your money” by Obama, and they’re saying, “no thanks,” because the terms of acceptance would mean significant state tax increases on their citizens….  Read the rest of this entry »

Supreme Excuses for Failure in Luzerne County

Posted by papundits on 02/27/2009

The Philadelphia Daily News’s John Baer this week reported a conversation with PA Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald Castille about the injustice inflicted by the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas on thousands of children. Click here for a link to Baer’s column, which says a lot more about Castille and the court than the chief justice intended. For more about the Luzerne County scandal, click here for last week’s DR News.

Two judges have pleaded guilty to taking $2.6 million in kickbacks for placing children in certain juvenile detention facilities at a rate two-and-a-half times the state average, and for denying children counsel at a rate 10 times the state average. So the lingering questions are:

  • Why did the PA Supreme Court, responsible for all of PA’s courts, remain silent for nine months after the Juvenile Law Center, the Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Public Welfare presented the court with these facts?
  • When it finally ruled, why did the Supreme Court refuse to investigate the Luzerne County Court?
  • Why did it refuse to explain officially either what took so long or why it wouldn’t intervene?
  • Does it matter that one of the owners of the juvenile detention centers is the son of a former PA Supreme Court chief justice?

About the delay, Castille said that since one of the guilty judges had changed the court’s policy about the right to counsel, he didn’t think there was still a problem. Castille apparently was unconcerned about the thousands of children whose rights already had been violated, some of whom were still wrongly sitting in juvenile jails. …  Read the rest of this entry »

What Is A Green Building (Part 1)

Posted by TonyfromOz on 02/27/2009

PART ONE OF THREE PARTS

One of the things I noticed in the Stimulus package was an allocation to ‘Green Buildings’ of around $5 Billion. This intrigued me a little because on the surface it looks like ‘Pork’, but again, that can be perceived as another of those misconceptions about electrical power, unless you really do have an idea as to what it actually might mean.
To highlight that, I want you to imagine a press conference where a politician is trying to explain some of the intricacies of this stimulus package to a group of journalists who will be wanting to report on it for their various media outlets.
A journalist asks the politician a question about this green building allocation specifically mentioning the large amount, and asking the question as to what exactly is a green building.
The politician mentions something about making the building energy efficient so that less power might be sourced from greenhouse gas emitting plants. The question might have been designed to get the politician in a ‘gotcha’ moment.
The politician thinks he might have got away with it by saying the ‘rote’ responses, so he’s relieved when the next question comes. The journalist just thinks he’s been fobbed off with that ‘rote’ response, and he knows this is just the rote response that provided generalities that, well, we all really sort of had an idea about anyway.
Why is that?

Carbon Dioxide Emissions Or Just More Hot Air?

Posted by papundits on 02/27/2009

Andrew BoltGASSING ON IS HEALTHY

Andrew Bolt

Humans evolved when carbon dixoide levels were much higher than now, so what’s the panic?

Dr. William Happer, currently a professor of Physics at Princeton University, was once fired by (Al) Gore at the Department of Energy in 1993 for disagreeing with the vice president on the effects of ozone to humans and plant life, also disagrees with Gore’s claim that manmade carbon dioxide (CO2) increases the temperature of the earth and is a threat to mankind…

“Many people don’t realize that over geological time, we’re really in a CO2 famine now. Almost never has CO2 levels been as low as it has been in the Holocene [geologic epoch] – 280 [parts per million (ppm)] – that’s unheard of,” Happer said. “Most of the time, it’s at least 1,000 [ppm] and it’s been quite higher than that.”

Happer said that when CO2 levels were higher – much higher than they are now, the laws of nature still managed to function as we understand them today.

“The earth was just fine in those times,” Happer said. “You know, we evolved as a species in those times, when CO2 levels were three or four times what they are now. And, the oceans were fine, plants grew, animals grew fine. So it’s baffling to me that, you know, we’re so frightened of getting nowhere close to where we started.”

TonyfromOz adds …..

Current levels of Carbon Dioxide in the Earth’s Atmosphere are 380 parts per million.

Military Officer Oath Analysis – Defender of Constitution

Posted by papundits on 02/27/2009

This is written by one of our MIL Plaintiffs:

There is a huge difference between the military enlisted oath and the officer oath of office.

The wordings of the current oath of enlistment and oath for commissioned officers are as follows:

Enlisted Oath

“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

Officer Oath -

“I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.” (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

As you can see, the officer does not swear to obey the orders of the President. We only have an obligation to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic (for example, a Presidential Usurper).  (My bold emphasis. —Al)

Our forefathers were so brilliant to foresee a situation like we find ourselves in now.  The officer oath is a safeguard to protect the Constitution against a corrupt elected government.  Officers only have an obligation to defend the Constitution.  Military officers have a lot of legal clout when it comes to Constitutional matters.  The officer oath does not mention following the UCMJ laws as does the enlisted oath.

Let’s see if SCOTUS runs and hides again.  They failed to live up to their oaths by ignoring the prior cases.  I pray they will wise up very soon and honor their oath to defend the Constitution.

Pork, Lipstick And Suckers Like me

Posted by papundits on 02/26/2009

Tom McLaughlin

Don’t know much about economics, but the economists I’ve been hearing lately don’t seem to know much either. To this ordinary guy, it looks like a rough road ahead, so I’m just going to trust my instincts and hang on tight.

A couple of months ago, I paid off my mortgage. For the first time since I was 18, I don’t owe anybody anything – no car payments, no student loans, nothing. My old truck still runs, but it’s rusting out underneath – kind of like our country. I’ll drive it until the frame breaks while I save up for another. I don’t feel too bad about junking my old pickup, but it’s hard watching Congress and the President junk my country.

My wife and I have worked long and hard. Can’t remember when I didn’t have at least two jobs. We scrimped, went without, raised four kids, sent them to college, and paid our bills. We still work hard, but we’re playing around some too. We have everything we need and our tastes are modest. Trying to figure out what to do with extra money is our problem now. Nice problem to have I guess, but a problem nonetheless. It’s not a lot but I don’t know where to put it.

Iran Insists On Confronting Obama

Posted by papundits on 02/26/2009

Andrew BoltAndrew Bolt

Iran refuses to use the excuse that would let Barack Obama off the hook:

Iran denied it had slowed down its nuclear activities and said it planned to install 50,000 centrifuges to enrich uranium over the next five years, a senior Iranian nuclear official said on Wednesday.

The U.N. nuclear agency watchdog said last week that Iran had slowed the expansion of its uranium enrichment plant at Natanz but had built up a stockpile of nuclear fuel…

U.S. President Barack Obama has said the United States is prepared to talk to Tehran, in a break from his predecessor’s approach, but his administration has also warned of tougher sanctions if Iran refuses to halt its nuclear work.

Obama Channels Chavez, Markets Crash

Posted by papundits on 02/25/2009

WASHINGTON (SR) - In his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Barack Obama sought to soothe America’s financial concerns, pledging to borrow hundreds of billions more for liberal social programs, and adding free college educations and health care to the mix.

“We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before – think Cuba without the frills,” Obama said to thunderous Democratic applause.

In response to the President’s upbeat speech, the markets today dropped faster than Bill Clinton’s pants at a sorority mixer, leading many to question the brilliance of electing a socialist ex-crackhead community organizer to the nation’s highest office.

“What was I thinking,” asked Kashanda Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio. “My pimp handles money better than Barack. We’re screwed.”

THE FOUNDATION

“[G]overnment, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.” –Thomas Paine

THE DEMO-GOGUES

Transferring wealth to those to whom the wealth belongs: “[W]e have lived through an era where too often, short-term gains were prized over long-term prosperity; where we failed to look beyond the next payment, the next quarter, or the next election. A [federal budget] surplus became an excuse to transfer wealth to the wealthy instead of an opportunity to invest in our future. Regulations were gutted for the sake of a quick profit at the expense of a healthy market. People bought homes they knew they couldn’t afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans1 anyway. And all the while, critical debates and difficult decisions were put off for some other time on some other day.” –President Barack Obama in his Tuesday night address

Federal budget equals vision for America: “In the next few days, I will submit a budget to Congress. So often, we have come to view these documents as simply numbers on a page or laundry lists of programs. I see this document differently. I see it as a vision for America — as a blueprint for our future.” –Barack Obama

Government is the be all, end all: “I reject the view that says our problems will simply take care of themselves; that says government has no role in laying the foundation for our common prosperity.” –Comrade Obama

Mexican Collapse Feeds Illegal Alien Problem In U.S.

Posted by papundits on 02/25/2009

20090223_mexico_collapse_2bMichael Cutler

This article on Fox News was brought to my attention by Bruce DeCell, a good friend who, given the circumstances under which we met, I would prefer that we had never met. Bruce is a founding member of 9/11 Families for a Secure America (9/11 FSA). He is a former New York City Police officer whose son-in-law was one of the many victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

I serve as an advisor to 9/11 FSA and we often discuss the clear nexus between our nation’s failures to secure its borders and create an immigration system that possesses meaningful integrity.

The Fox article actually deals with both of these critically important issues. The current situation in Mexico is the direct result of the ever-increasing influence that the drug cartels wield in that country. Corruption has historically been a way of life in Mexico. The current situation involves an exponential increase in the corruption, but adds to that problem the factor of escalating violence as drug cartels, not unlike terrorist organizations, use violence and the threat of violence in conjunction with bribery to destabilize the federal government of Mexico, along with local governments in that beleaguered country.

A comedy routine, right? Maybe Obama’s rewriting of St Augustine’s “O Lord, help me to be pure, but not yet”:

President Barack Obama pledged on Monday to dramatically slash the skyrocketing annual budget deficit as he started to dole out the record $787 billion economic stimulus package he signed last week.

Surely the best way to get out of debt involves not getting deeper into it.

Can Our Nation Survive A Severe Lurch To The Left

Posted by papundits on 02/24/2009

20080312_us_flag_compMichael Sall

Skeptics have predicted that a democracy can survive only until a majority of the voters realize they can vote themselves someone else’s money. Margaret Thatcher said the problem with socialism is that eventually they run out of other people’s money. We in the United States are doing both. In the long run such behavior is self destructive, but few people think about the long run. Will our nation as we know it survive? Many political systems lasted much longer than our 200 plus year history and then failed. Will the skeptics prove right?

The Democrat Party strategy has always had a stealth socialist agenda. They recoil at the word socialist, just as they do at the suggestion that the mainstream media is biased in their favor, but so does everyone who employs the big lie when trying to deny a self-evident truth. The tag line for their approach to political success is tax and tax, spend and spend (creating a loyal voter base), elect and elect.

The U.S. has moved more slowly towards socialism than Europe, and has had more prosperity as a result.
