Raising a Ruckus over Rangel

Amongst the myriad of pork-laden bills that have arisen in Congress in recent weeks, at least one actually favors the citizenry and would help narrow the gulf between American people and the “more equal” political elites in Washington.

HR 735, proposed Wednesday by Texas Republican Congressman John Carter, would eliminate all IRS penalties and interest for any overdue paid taxes for all Americans. Not surprisingly, the bill bears the moniker, “The Rangel Rule.”

Unfortunately, the bill stands little chance of becoming law, especially given the hostile Democratic environment in the nation’s capitol and the even greater hostility towards the bill from its own namesake, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee-and tax evader extraordinaire.

The underlying point of Rep. Carter’s proposed bill is “to open the discussion” regarding certain politicians and their tendency to elevate themselves above the law. As Rep. Carter said:

“I don’t think it’s wrong for us to start having a free discussion in Congress and with a certain amount of humor in it about how should people be treated in Congress.”

And Rep. Carter couldn’t be more spot on-although the situation is anything but humorous.
The discussion that desperately needs to be had is one that the mainstream media has largely avoided. For far too long, politicians like Charlie Rangel and now Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner have regarded themselves as above the law on issues of taxation and ethics. …

Why IS The Threat Of CO2 Emissions Dangerous? (It’s Not What You Think) Part 1

Posted by TonyfromOz on 01/31/2009

PART 1 OF 2 PARTS

Just how did we allow ourselves to be taken in by this?

Here is a link to the genesis of all this current scare campaign about Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions. Read this very interesting article for some insight.

What started just after the Second World War with someone applying for public funding to do research, and then continuing to apply for more public funding has snowballed into what we have today. To be eligible for that public funding the person had to actually make some findings, so a small paper led onto appointment to do more research, and the snowball started rolling down the hill. From that point, more and more people came on board. They looked for anything that might agree with what they were looking into, and the snowball just got bigger and bigger. Their findings then became the Science.
Now, the threat of those CO2 emissions has become dangerous.
Why?
Because of this threat, very soon we will start running out of electricity, and this is no idle statement.

Economic Stimulus Or …..

20080121_money_bagTRILLION DOLLAR BABY

Satire by Shawn Goodwin

Two weeks ago, Barack Obama was sworn in as the nation’s 44th president. Millions of Americans reveled in the HopeyChange that was being offered by the new administration, and sat back to await their unicorns, free gasoline, and lifetime subscriptions to Maxim magazine.

They are still waiting.

Unfortunately, most voters failed to realize that it is rather difficult to keep promises of unicorns, free fuel, and a supermodel in every bathtub when the economy is failing faster than Oprah’s latest diet. Something needed to be done, and as usual, our friends in Congress had a solution: We’ll spend our way to prosperity! In the course of the last week, President Obama’s “economic stimulus package” was fast approaching the $900 billion – that’s billion with a “b” – mark. According to The Wall Street Journal, the money will be spent thusly:

[A] $365.6 billion spending measure for such brick-and-mortar projects as highways and bridges; a $180 billion measure to boost jobless benefits and Medicaid, among other things; and a $275 billion tax-relief package, which includes a plan to give a $500 payroll tax holiday to all workers.

Solar Power – The Way Of The Future???

Posted by papundits on 01/31/2009

Andrew BoltA SHADY OFFER FROM SOLAR CARPETBAGGERS

Andrew Bolt

The Age has launched a crusade for a new solar industry in Australia:

Australia is still missing out on major investments in solar energy.

We are? Sounds like we’ve got a chance to make money here.

Why does Australia remain a straggler in the solar stakes and what do we stand to lose if we don’t catch up?

That’s what I’d like to know, too. How could we turn our back on a nice little earner?

Critics say Treasury remains dominated by free-market devotees who resist the idea of government intervention or playing favourites – as in, giving solar a kick-start in the marketplace.

Hey, wait a minute. I thought the deal was that these “major investments” would flow from solar companies to us, not the other way around. No?

No:

Almost all of the many renewables experts spoken to for this story agree that what is required is intervention in the marketplace to give still-expensive solar electricity a price that makes it competitive. Where this has happened, the industry has flowered. As the industry has grown, the price of solar power has started to plummet, and with it the subsidies initially necessary to allow it to mature.

We have to “give” the “still-expensive” solar companies a price that makes them “competitive”? What kind of economics is that? Or, rather, what kind of word-tricks are being played here? What they want is not a “price” but a “subsidy”. What they offer are not “major investments” but a “big bills”.  They why not say so?

And why not, in this long piece of special pleading for the solar industry, tell us what this price – whoa, subsidy – is going to cost us? Hello?

And, please, spare us the jingoism:

Perhaps even more worrying than cloudy Germany showing us up in the solar stakes …

We should worry that they’re so dumb? We should match their green stupidity? Get away with you.

Sixty Million Armed Patriots … and Counting

To support and defend.

THE FOUNDATION

“A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” –Second Amendment, United States Constitution

PATRIOT PERSPECTIVE

By Mark Alexander

By now, you’ve probably heard that large sectors of the U.S. economy have collapsed, consumer confidence is at a historic low, Democrats control the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, and they’re poised to print “bailout and infrastructure” money on the theory of “trickle up poverty” — risking a prolonged recession followed by hyperinflation.

If there is an economic recovery any time soon, it will be the result of private sector initiatives and a consumer confidence recovery, not the redistribution of a few trillion dollars among friends. Never fear, there is a “community organizer” at the helm.

And that’s the good news.

The bad news is that Barack Hussein Obama and his congressional cadre may well use the current crisis as cover to further undermine our constitutional rule of law.

Yes, Obama and his Demo colleagues in the Senate and House have taken a sacred oath to “support and defend” our Constitution, but they have no history of honoring their oaths.

So where does that leave “The People”? Well, if the politicians don’t honor their oath, why should we honor their office? That is a question for another day.

At no time in our history has the future of American liberty been secure without a vigorous defense of the plain language of our Constitution, opposed to the adulterated interpretation of the so-called “Living Constitution” promoted by Barack Obama and his gang of judicial activists.

And there is no more important place to start at this moment in our history than with the Second Amendment to our Constitution. …   Read the rest of this entry »

Pole Dancing For 14 to 19 Year Olds…

Posted by Sniper One on 01/30/2009

I enjoying putting hot girls with low self-esteem through college as much the next man. However, I don’t really see the purpose to having pole dancing included in “Be Heathy” week.

(Fox News) As part of a British school’s “Be Healthy Week,” students were treated to performances by a pole dancer.

About 1,000 students between the ages of 14 and 19 from South Devon College in Paignton, England, watched as instructor Sam Remmer, 32, of pole dancing company The Art of Dance performed on campus, according to The Sun.

Here is the routine from You Tube…

If the goal is to raise strip club attendance and to raise a new generation of strippers, I guess we are off to a good start…

In defense, it is a fairly nice routine, and is much better than what I’ve seen in strip clubs.

Education Or Indoctrination

Posted by papundits on 01/30/2009

EDUCATION AND INDOCTRINATION CANNOT CO-EXIST

Gabriel Garnica, Esq.

As liberals everywhere light cigarettes in the afterglow of their inauguration paradise, sane Americans with queasy stomachs can focus their attention on the many areas where the left’s fingerprints look more like infantile graffiti than any sign of constructive or rational achievement. Clearly, education is one of these liberal crime scenes. As an educator for over 20 years who taught in an urban public school for three years, I have seen why liberals repeatedly fumble the opportunity to properly educate our young people.

Dysfunctional Perception of Education’s Role

Liberals see education as a means of indoctrination in their agenda, not necessarily as a means of personal improvement leading to overall societal gain. Many of these people will argue that they certainly want their students to improve and learn in the best possible environment, but this is a large tub of hogwash as evidenced by their own policies and track record.

To begin with, few can doubt that national and local teachers unions spend more time worrying about improving the environment of teachers than that of students. This is evidenced by such things as these groups passionately fighting against charter schools and other forms of school choice.

Liberal Media Bias

Andrew BoltHOW THE MEDIA STICKS TO ITS STORY

Andrew Bolt

TonyfromOz prefaces …..

It seems a little strange that when President Bush made a gaffe of any sort, the media crawled all over it, effectively making him out as an idiot. Yet, when the new President does something similar, or makes a gaffe, it’s either not even reported or they give him some leeway. Take for example the long running segment on ‘Letterman’, his ‘Great Moments In Presidential Speeches’, that ran every night for more than a couple of years where they slagged off at what are now called ‘Bushisms’. I’ll bet they won’t even be thinking of doing something even remotely similar for President Obama. Follow the three links and just see how different their treatment of similar matters really is. I might think that George Bush showed some grace by not commenting. I wonder if the new President would be so gracious or whether his handlers would even allow it in the first place.

Barack Obama trying to walk through a window isn’t news, because he’s a genius.

bushdoor1

George Bush trying to walk through a locked door is huge news, because he’s, you know, a moron.

Same story when clever Obama merely repeats what dumb Bush said already.

“The stimulus package being discussed is politically smart but economically stupid. It’s that bedeviling, omnipresent Santa Claus and Tooth Fairy problem again. … A far more important measure that Congress can take toward a healthy economy is to ensure that the 2003 tax cuts don’t expire in 2010 as scheduled. If not, there are 15 separate taxes scheduled to rise in 2010, costing Americans $200 billion a year in increased taxes. In the face of a recession, we don’t need that.” –economist Walter E. “Bashing Rush Limbaugh last week, Obama urged GOP lawmakers to ignore the voices of obstructionism and sign on to his behemoth stimulus package: ‘We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done.’ … History has shown us that ‘Get Things Done’ is mindless liberal code for passing ineffective legislation and expanding government for government’s sake.” –columnist Michelle Malkin

Some Facts About Renewable Electrical Power Generation (Part 2)

Posted by TonyfromOz on 01/29/2009

PART 2 OF 2 PARTS

In yesterday’s post, I showed how statistics can be artfully used to show different things, how the same set of figures can be used in different ways to explain different things. What this effectively showed is that something can have spin added to it to make it look like there has been something done even though those same set of figures can be looked at in another way to make it look like the exact opposite

I posted this quote from President Obama:

To finally spark the creation of a clean energy economy, we will double the production of alternative energy in the next three years.

As I also explained yesterday, this is an actual impossibility. Why I wanted to show those different interpretations of the same set of figures was to show you that when the time comes and someone asks the inevitable question after those three years, seeking to find out if in fact alternative energy production has doubled, then we can look back to the very start and see exactly if it in fact has doubled, and just which interpretation will be used to show that it may (or may not) have doubled.

The Great Recycling Con

Posted by papundits on 01/29/2009

Andrew BoltBEING GREEN KILLS THE PLANET

Andrew Bolt

For a green believer, it’s like a sheet of paper with “PTO” printed on both sides:

Peter Jones suggested that an “urgent” review of Labour’s policy on recycling was needed to make sure the collection, transportation and processing of recyclable material was not causing a net increase in greenhouse gases.

Mr Jones, a former director of the waste firm Biffa and now an adviser to environment ministers and the London Mayor,…. suggested that much of the country’s waste should simply be burnt to generate electricity.

Meanwhile, yet more evidence that recycling is a gigantic con – or at best a mere genuflection:

Last month, The Daily Telegraph disclosed that councils in England and Wales were dumping more than 200,000 tons of recyclable waste every year – up to 10 per cent of all the glass, paper, plastic and other materials separated out by householders. Thousands of tons of recyclables are shipped to China because of insufficient capacity and demand in Britain.

In some parts of the country, residents have to sort their waste into as many as seven containers, including food waste bins, which has helped councils to justify the scrapping of weekly bin collections.

The Dems CAUSED it and Now They Are Trying To Fix It By Flushing OUR MONEY Down the DRAIN!

Posted by Grumpy Old Man on 01/29/2009

pigThe pig exploded and the pork went everywhere (Photo credit Ollie Crafoord)

As Breitbart stated:

In a swift victory for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House approved a historically huge $819 billion stimulus bill

A HUGE and largely INEFFECTIVE “stimulus bill” to try to reverse the damage they have already done by their Demo-Crap Socialistic Policies.

“We don’t have a moment to spare,” Obama declared at the White House as congressional allies hastened to do his bidding in the face of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

This “worst economic crisis” was caused by Barrack Obama (aka Barry Soetoro) and his Ultra-Liberal cohorts in crime, including Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid!

But honestly the problem did start with Jimmy Carter and was deepened by the Clinton’s. But many of the Democrat Congressmen and women really screwed us Americans over and caused this current Economic crisis. This has been detailed here and at many other unbiased Blogs and websites.

President Bush and most of the Republicans tried for 8 years to prevent this from happening, but was stymied by the Demo-Craps!

I hope he soon gets removed from office while we still have a chance at Damage Control.

From Patriot Room

Zip. Zero. Nada. This is not a bipartisan bill by any definition. The Dems own it. They will live by it and die by it. The Republicans stood there like a stone wall and unanimously voted no on the biggest crap pork sandwich ever created by the United States Congress.

From the Washington Post.

“With no Republican support, the House approved an $819 billion stimulus plan that will serve as the cornerstone of President Obama’s efforts to resuscitate the economy, an early victory for the new president but still a disappointment because of the lack of Republican votes. The measure passed 244 to 188, with 11 Democrats and 177 Republicans voting against it.”

The American people are the ones who will be disappointed when they realize they got the screw job of a lifetime from the Democrat Party.

Just to prove this is just a giant Democrat pork bill in “stimulus” clothing, most of the money will not even be spent this year.

“The Democratic plan took a hit when the Congressional Budget Office estimated that only 7 percent of infrastructure money would make its way into the economy by the end of the year, and only 38 percent would be spent by the end of the 2010 fiscal year.”

And regardless when it is spent, the money really isn’t for roads and bridges at all. Only $30 billion (about 3 percent) will be used for infrastructure. The rest just goes to line the pockets of groups like ACORN, to fund liberal pet projects like the National Endowment of the Arts, and to spend money on the government, which doesn’t do anything to stimulate the economy.

So Obama got no Republican votes in the House. He needs at least two in the Senate to get cloture. At least one prominent “centrist” Republican is against it.

“In the Senate, Democrats are confident they can pick up the one or two Republican votes needed to reach a 60-vote majority. But Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the GOP presidential nominee last year who has pledged to work with Obama, said Sunday he won’t be among the Republicans supporting the package.

“As it stands now, I would not” vote for the bill, McCain told Fox News on Sunday, explaining that he’d like to see more tax cuts and GOP input into the bill.”

Let’s see how mavericky McCain feels this week.

During the next election, or hopefully the Special election, for President you LAZY 61% – 64% Middle Class Conservatives who didn’t vote better get out and VOTE!!!

This passage of this bill is a blight on America and on our financial well being.

Democrats Seek Millions For Sex In Stimulus Bill

Posted by papundits on 01/28/2009

WASHINGTON (SR) – House Republicans are balking at signing the Democrat’s Economic Stimulus bill because it includes billions of dollars for programs and services that have ”absolutely nothing” to do with economic stimulus.

Included in the Democrats bill is $335 million for sexually transmitted disease education, $245 million for gay, bi, and transgendered nipple sensitivity studies, $48 million for third world erotic message seminars, $654 million for sexual lubricant subsidies to the poor, and $127 million for the production of midget masturbation instructional tapes and CDs.

“The Democrat bill won’t stimulate anything but more government debt and maybe a few horny midgets,” Representative Mike Pence of Indiana, chairman of the Republican conference, said Tuesday. ”I say let the midgets figure it out on their own dime.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid defended the bill, saying their party is “all about stimulation of every kind.” To emphasize their point, the two addressed reporters in their underwear.

School Time In Zimbabwe

Posted by TonyfromOz on 01/28/2009

A few weeks back I posted that Zimbabwe had just introduced a new banknote for $100 Trillion. The value changes daily (always downwards) as inflation runs out of control.

Today, this story was released.

The school year has started in Zimbabwe, but most of the children have been told not to come, and of those who did, most were told to go back home.

The teachers still remaining in Zimbabwe have gone out on strike, saying that they cannot survive on the wages they are being paid. Those on strike number very few however, not out of disinterest, but most teachers have fled the Country looking for teaching work in South Africa mainly.

So then, just what is the wage for teachers in Zimbabwe then?

They are currently being paid $26 Trillion per month.

This equates to $4.00 at the current exchange rate.

Stimulus Bill on House Floor! Your Calls Needed Immediately to Save E-Verify

Posted by papundits on 01/28/2009

The Stimulus Bill (H.R.1) will be on the House floor this afternoon and we need your help to keep the E-Verify amendments in the bill. These E-Verify amendments, authored by Congressmen Ken Calvert (R-CA) and Jack Kingston (R-GA), were adopted by voice vote in the House Appropriations Committee last week and have survived all of the other committee hearings. Now there may be efforts to strip them from the bill on the floor. We need your help NOW!

The E-Verify amendments are critical because they help ensure that America’s workforce is legal and that new jobs created using taxpayer money go to legal U.S. workers, not illegal aliens. Identical to last year’s H.R.6633, the Calvert amendment reauthorizes E-Verify for four years and keeps that program available for all responsible and well-meaning employers to use. The Kingston amendment requires all employers who receive money through the taxpayer funded Stimulus Bill to use E-Verify-ensuring that taxpayer money in the bill is used to create jobs for legal workers, not illegal aliens.

It should come as no surprise, therefore, that opposition groups are already lobbying members of Congress to get these amendments stripped from the bill. We are even hearing from Capitol Hill that the Obama Administration has voiced concern about the amendments. We need your help NOW to make sure they stay in.

PLEASE call your Representatives NOW and demand that they oppose all efforts to strip the E-Verify amendments from the Stimulus Bill! Debate will begin any moment and we need to make sure our voices are heard.

To find the phone number of your Representative, click here

Coal Is Good

Posted by papundits on 01/28/2009

20090125_coalCOAL, GLORIOUS COAL!

Alan Caruba

I began 2009 praising carbon dioxide as the gas, along with oxygen, upon which all life on Earth depends.

Now I praise coal and for reasons the mainstream press and other media will studiously avoid telling you. Coal, as you may recall, is on the Obama hit list because its use, according to the environmental loonies, will doom the Earth to a global warming that is not happening.

The United States is home to huge deposits of coal. It is second only to China in terms of total coal consumption. In 2007, the U.S. used about 1.1 billion tons of coal. According to an authority on energy, Robert Bryce, “That’s the energy equivalent of about 4.2 billion barrels of oil per year or about 11.5 million barrels of oil per day.” By way of comparison, “America’s daily coal ration contains more energy than Saudi Arabia’s daily oil production.” That’s a lot of energy.

Why, then, is the Obama administration – and virtually all of the major environmental organizations – opposed to coal?

Some Facts About Renewable Electrical Power Generation (Part 1)

Posted by TonyfromOz on 01/28/2009

Electrical Power Generation Chart for January 2009. Chart from U.S. Government Energy Information Administration.

Electrical Power Generation Chart for January 2009. Chart from U.S. Government Energy Information Administration. (EIA)

PART ONE OF TWO PARTS

These two posts will be along the lines  of ‘told you so’, only I’m getting in early. What I wanted to do was to actually create a ‘baseline’, and what I mean by that is that sometimes, the things that politicians say seem to vanish over time. You sort of remember them saying something, but later, when it proves to be inaccurate, unachievable, or, should I actually say the word, a misstatement, the original statement seems to have, as if by magic, disappeared, so you never really have an accurate account of what was actually said, or accurate records that you can refer to, to see if the figures are being fudged, incorrectly stated or having ’spin’ placed on them.

So, what I want to do here is to put down exactly what was said, and then to show you the current accurate figures of what is being referred to.

Then, when it doesn’t happen, we can all refer back to exactly the point in question.

That’s why this will be a ‘told you so’, only instead of actually waiting for that time to arrive, I’m saying it now.

Why Hamas Won’t Stop

Posted by papundits on 01/28/2009

Andrew BoltISRAEL WILL BE BLAMED, WHICH IS WHY HAMAS KILLS

Andrew Bolt

If Hamas is really the peace-loving victim of Israel’s “disproportionate” violence, as the Left loudly claims, why does it want to keep fighting?

ISRAEL carried out an air strike on the Gaza Strip overnight after Palestinian militants killed a soldier in a bomb attack, as the fragile ceasefire between the two sides stood on the brink of collapse.

It strikes me that the Hamas benefits from the same Pavlovian response of the Left that so many Islamist terrorists, especially in Iraq, have found so useful. The Left says nothing when these extremists kill Jews or Americans or even other Muslims, but it then savagely attacks the inevitable attempts of Israel or the US to defend their citizens and friends.

Which is why Hamas will keep killing.

Obama Sweeps Oscars, SAG Awards, Golden Globes

Posted by papundits on 01/28/2009

The News Leader of the Known Universe

obamaoscarsized2In an unprecedented night of Hollywood history, Barack Obama swept all the awards in every category for the Oscars, the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes. The feat was impressive considering in order for it to happen, the Oscars had to be awarded early and the Golden Globes had to be redone completely.

Obama picked up the award for Best Actor for his performance in ‘The 2008 Presidential Campaign.’ Judges cited his ability to step into a role he had no experience at and look like he had done it all his life.

“You couldn’t tell that he had no clue about foreign policy or energy independence or tax reform. He just used his charisma to pull it off. I haven’t seen someone do it that well since Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson turned in a career performance in ‘The Rundown,’” said an academy judge who asked to remain anonymous.

Obama also picked up the award for Best Actress for his performance in ‘On the Beach in Hawaii.’

“When I saw those nipples, I knew he was going to win Best Actress,” said Meryl Streep, nominated for her performance as a nun in ‘Doubt,’ “My nipples just aren’t as pert as his. Plus, I was playing a nun. Is this what I’m reduced to? A nun? I didn’t even get to show my nipples. Hell, it didn’t even get cold enough for them to poke through my habit! Barack Obama, you are a superior actress!”
