Palin Not In Oprah’s Race

Oprah Winfrey won’t give Sarah Palin the coverage she gave Barack Obama, even though she knows her viewers are enthralled by this woman’s story:

I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.
This will explode in Oprah’s face.
UPDATE
This surprises me – and should alarm Obama:
McCain’s address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night was seen by about 38.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Obama received 38.4 million. That means McCain’s speech is now the most-watched in convention history — 41% higher than President Bush’s acceptance speech four years ago, and 1% higher than Obama’s address last week.
So which candidate has the buzz, after all?
One further point. I wrote yesterday that McCain’s speech seemed a bit flat at times. It wasn’t delivered fluently. Yet I remember slabs of it that way I haven’t remembered Obama’s more soaring oratory. Maybe that’s because what McCain said seemed so tangible, with his astonishing personal narrative vividly explaining the political stance he was outlining. It rang true and loud.
I’m not denying that Obama symbolises something hopeful, even redemptive, but his message is built on mere words, not great deeds, and so are more easily blown away by the breeze of time.
UPDATE 2
We’ve seen this class divide before. The media as a body may have tried to destroy Sarah Palin, but the public has declared her its favorite politician:
Note. Three links here also. TonyfromOz.
Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom….
Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.
And to repeat: the dismissal of her as a mere token woman, sent to hoover up the votes of Hillary Clinton’s disappointed fans, is a fundamental misreading of her appeal (as well as a patronising and sexist one):
She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women.
UPDATE 3
Obama fan Jann Wenner gets the kicking from his readers that his magazine deserves for this sliming:
Read more excellent articles from Andrew Bolt.
Andrew Bolt is a journalist and columnist writing for The Herald Sun in Melbourne Victoria Australia.
