This guy needs to be drug out in the street and beat to death with a crowbar. No mercy, no clemency. He just flat out needs to die, slowly, and painfully.
What kind of an animal fractures an 11-day-old infants arm, leg, skull, and nose?
SOMERSET, Pa. — A Somerset man assaulted an 11-day-old infant and fractured the baby’s arm, leg, skull and nose during an altercation with the child’s grandmother, police said.
Jeremy Smith, 31, has been in Somerset County Jail since Jan. 1 for allegedly assaulting the woman, but the infant’s injuries were unknown until Wednesday when it was treated in Pittsburgh’s Children Hospital for an unrelated medical problem, police said.
Police accuse Smith of injuring the baby by assaulting the grandmother while she was holding the infant.
Absolutely vile and disgusting!!

There is a bit of talk on the Internet about the possibility of “McCain Derangement Syndrome“.
Now, I don’t feel that my refusal to support McCain is unhinged. I understand that McCain is a war hero. I won’t deny that. I understand that he has done the occasional good thing in congress.
However that doesn’t change the facts.
- McCain-Feingold
- McCain-Kennedy
- McCain-Lieberman
- Kerry-McCain ‘04
- Gang of 14
- RINO
If I wanted to vote for a pro-Victory democrat, I might consider McCain; however I am not voting for a democrat. I am here to vote for a Republican (capital R).
McCain’s latest lies about Romney have not done anything to endear McCain to me. All it proves it that he is still the same grumpy oi’ man I thought he was.
I’ve said from the beginning (pre-Surge) that I would not vote for McCain.
Is this “derangement”? I don’t think so.

Congress Poised to Give Tax Rebates to Illegal Aliens
Call Your Senators Now!
The economic stimulus package traveling through Congress right now does nothing to stop the IRS from issuing rebate checks to illegal aliens. Please call your Senators now and urge them to take action!
Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed H.R.5140, the economic stimulus package, by a vote of 385-35. As many of you have already learned from news outlets, the economic package includes tax rebates of $600 for individual taxpayers and $1,200 for couples. However, this package—thrown together within days—allows the IRS to send tax rebate checks to illegal aliens!
The issue stems from defining who is eligible for a tax rebate. In drafting H.R.5140, Congress left gaping loopholes. Section 101 excludes “nonresident aliens” from being eligible, but this is essentially meaningless as the IRS does not determine whether an individual is a “nonresident alien” based on his or her immigration status. Moreover, it does not address the eligibility of illegal aliens who send in tax returns using stolen or false social security numbers.
At a minimum, the IRS should be required to screen the numbers (whether individual taxpayer identification numbers (ITINs) or social security numbers (SSNs)) used to issue the checks to ensure they match the name of the taxpayer in question. If a name and number do not match, the IRS should be prohibited from issuing a tax rebate check. Senator John Ensign (R-NV) has filed an amendment to affect this change, but we do not know whether he will even be allowed to offer it.
H.R.5140 is now in the Senate and will go through the Senate Finance Committee this afternoon. From there, Senate staffers indicate it will go quickly to the floor. PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW!
We urge all FAIR members, activists and friends to call their Senators now and urge them to fix the loopholes in H.R. 5140 that allow illegal aliens to get tax rebate checks. After calling your own Senators, please call the Senators who sit on the Finance Committee and urge them to take action too.
To find the phone numbers for your Senators, click here.

There are three mid-level bureaucrats, one in each of the last three administrations, who did incalculable damage to our country. Their decisions and statements were not countermanded by their superiors until the events had taken place and it was too late.
The first is April Glaspie, Ambassador to Iraq in the George H. W. Bush administration. In a meeting with Saddam Hussein on July 25 1990, eight days before the August 2 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, she said the following: “We have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. The Kuwait issue is not associated with America.” (Saddam smiled). Later, a British journalist said to her, “You encouraged this aggression – his invasion. What were you thinking?” She replied, “I wasn’t thinking, none of us were thinking.” With this meeting, Saddam thought he had a green light to invade Kuwait. Maybe the war didn’t have to happen.
The second is Jamie Gorelick, Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton administration. In a 1995 Justice Department directive, she constructed a “Wall of Separation” that barred intelligence sharing between the FBI and CIA, to protect civil rights of terrorist suspects. An example is Zacarias Moussaoui, the 19th 9/11 terrorist. FBI agents in Minneapolis questioned him on August 15, 2001, and asked to read the files on his laptop. He refused. The counter terrorism section in Washington, D.C. would not seek a warrant because his last name was common in France. Without her order, communications between the FBI and CIA may have prevented the 9/11 attacks. Later, unfortunately, she was allowed to sit on the 9/11 Commission.
The third is Paul Bremer, U.S. Administrator of Iraq in the George W. Bush administration. In an order issued on May 16 2003, he stipulated that Ba’th party members holding senior ranks would be banned from public sector employment. Thousands suddenly found themselves unemployed and alienated. Simultaneously with this order, the army was disbanded, leaving about 400,000 soldiers jobless. In the following months, the lack of a military permitted the looting of national banks, museums, and libraries. These two orders together had far reaching effects on Iraq’s future, by helping to bring into being the insurgency that has caused us so much blood, time, and treasure.
These three individuals changed the course of history. Have we learned anything?

Jason Rantz
Much has been made about the state of our economy and pundits are predicting that it will be the most important issue of the upcoming election. That would be a mistake – and making it the election’s big issue is buying into a Democrat ploy.
The Democrats will tell us how bad our economy is. They will claim we are in a recession. They will moan about the poor and middle class barely being able to pay the rent. My favorite will be – most likely coming from John Edwards – the line where some poor single mother will have to pick between the rent and the heat to keep her kids warm. Baloney.
Fact: we are not in a recession. Our economy is not as strong as it could be, but it is by no means in poor shape. Democrats poll higher when the economy is poor, thus they want you to think we’re going into a depression the likes we’ve never seen before. The real election focus should be on national security – a topic Republicans normally poll high with.
We have a virtually unguarded southern border where OTMs (“other than Mexicans”) can freely travel past. We are in a global war on terrorism with a brutal enemy that wants our very way of life ended. We have a war going on in Iraq that is finally seeing real and substantial progress. But voters are supposed to forget that and focus on an economy that isn’t anywhere near a recession?
It’s no wonder the Democrats want to derail our focus from national security to the economy. Remember when illegal immigration – which has undeniable ties to national security – was the national issue du jour? Republican numbers soared and Democrats were seen as trying to ignore the rule of law for foreigners to come into our nation illegally. And look at the front running Democrats’ positions on these topics – Obama wants our troops out of Iraq (a full withdrawal by the end of 2008), Clinton says President Bush misused his authority regarding the war (and changes her position as often as the wind), and Edwards is busy talking about two Americas. All want a quasi-immediate pullout from Iraq – that is a sign that they don’t take this war and the existential threat against America and the West seriously enough.
In contrast, look at the leading Republicans. Romney takes a hard line approach to the war and on terrorism. According to one of Romney’s advisors, Cofer Black, a former CIA and State Department official, “The United States faces a new generation of global threats and challenges. Governor Romney recognizes the threats before us and has already laid out the policies needed to give our men and women the tools they need to protect our country.” Romney has also garnered the endorsement of Dr. Walid Phares, a leading expert on Islamic Jihad . . .
. . . Republicans get it; Democrats don’t want you to. It’s in their best interest. Don’t let shady politicians who put their own campaigns above national security change the topics that should mean most to us . . .

I can’t stand John McCain. He has all of the worst qualities of the last four years of George W. Bush. The only thing McCain has right correct is the War on Terror. He is wrong on everything else.
McCain is a blatant HisPanderer. He will not secure the borders. He will not solve the immigration problem. He will only make it worse. No matter what the rhetoric, you either enforce the laws of the country, or you don’t; a humanitarian way to enforce the law is just double-speak for “won’t do shit”.
John McCain is also dead wrong about tax cuts. As I said in a previous post…
What more economic uncertainty do you need than the prospect of Congress stealing more of your paycheck in 2011, and raising taxes to pay for “entitlement programs” like socialized health care.
American citizens should be trusted to make their own decisions about what to do with their own money.
There is plenty of evidence out there to make the case that our economy is fine, and even more evidence to prove that our economy over the past six years has been better than it ever was under Clinton. However that kind of news doesn’t sell papers, and it doesn’t make elections.
Every eight years we have the threat of a downturn in the economy. We did after G.H. Bush, we did after Clinton, and we do now after G.W. Bush. Is this a wild coincidence, or is it an election/media driven cycle? Frankly, I’m apt to believe that it’s a media driven cycle.
You don’t get people elected by talking about what a great job the last guy did.
Two Words: Kerry-McCain
I will never vote for John McCain. He may be a war hero, but he is unfit to be elected dog catcher.

The Democrat presidential candidates are a study in contradictions. Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama all support Roe v. Wade, oppose the Supreme Court decision that upheld a ban on partial birth abortion, and want judges that “protect fundamental women’s rights”. This completely mirrors the philosophy of Planned Parenthood, the largest operator of abortion clinics in the U.S., and a major contributor to the Democrat party.
So they want a woman to have a choice in having or aborting a baby, but if she decides to have the baby, that’s where the choice should end. First, they want the youngster put in government funded day care, so he or she can be indoctrinated with liberal thinking. Then, at age 5 or 6 years old, they want the child to enroll in the only true monopoly in our country – the government public school system. The Democrats are in the pocket of the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) who, when combined, are the nations largest and richest unions with 3.2 million members and a $1.3 billion war chest.
They know that if given a choice, with vouchers, parents will abandon the failing government schools in droves. This would force school systems to examine their bloated bureaucracies and realize more money isn’t the answer. The answer is competition, with private schools and home schooling. This is vigorously opposed by the unions because it takes away accountability and political and economic power. In his State of the Union message on January 28, President Bush mentioned the D.C. Opportunity Scholarships approved by Congress to allow 2,600 of the poorest children in D.C. to find new hope in faith-based or other non-public schools. To expand this to more children, he wants a new $300 million program called Pell Grants for Kids. When the unions figure out this is more privatization, they will go ballistic and try to pressure a Democrat Congress to stop it.

So let see if I understand this. In order to stave off a supposed recession, or at least a slow down of growth… Congress is giving money back to the people to spend, in the name of “Economic Stimulus”.
Yet, the same people in Congress don’t want to leave you with more money in your pocket past 2011.
How is giving you a minor few hundred dollars today going to help when you’ll end up paying over a thousand dollars more in taxes in 2011; providing that Congress doesn’t raise your tax rates after the next President takes office.
What more economic uncertainty do you need than the prospect of Congress stealing more of your paycheck in 2011, and raising taxes to pay for “entitlement programs” like socialized health care.
If the government wants to make health care affordable for everyone then it needs to give you money back into your pocket. Tax Credits for your health care premiums. If you pay $300 a month for health care (3,600 a year), like I do, that should go towards your overall tax debt.
Not only should you not tax me on that 3,600 a year, the government should return that 3,600 to me by way of eating it as a tax credit.
That way you can have whatever health care program you want, at the expense of the government, without having to worry about if you can get into a doctors office in the next decade due to congressional oversight and bloated bureaucracy.
If you want to see socialized medicine in America, you need not look further than the VA or Tri-Care. Many military families would rather go to a civilian doctor than deal with a military doc.
I don’t want the federal government mucking up and slowing down something as important as health care. If you want to see costs go up, and efficiency go down, go ahead and federalize something.
Congress can’t even pass a budget on time, why should I trust them with something like Cancer treatment?
In short, leave me the money in my pocket so I can make my own choices, I don’t need Congress to tell me how to live.

So I got called a hateful ass yesterday, this little tidbit of news won’t be making it to CNN or FoxNews. I suppose the person who called me thought it was some kind of epiphany, and should be a life changing event for me.
Sorry to disappoint, but I have already heard it before.
Actually, hateful ass is one of the tamer things I have been called. So it makes me think that the person who took the time out of their day to call me thus really had no idea how to properly insult someone.
I mean really, a generic comment like hateful ass really doesn’t stick. You have to really learn to go for a much (self) hated character flaw in order to bother someone.
Trust me on this one, I learned from some of the most emotionally abusive schoolmates on the planet.
The last time a person got a really good and effective dig on me was back in the late 90’s. A former friend of mine was leaving the company we were working at, and going to work at Circuit City. In his parting email to several to several of us; he said that I needed to learn loyalty.
Obviously, since I remember him making the comment, it must of stung like a son of a bitch… and it did.
Life with me, as my wife will attest, hasn’t always been roses. Both my wife and I have done things to each other that would of emotionally destroyed lesser people. However, through the bad times, we always knew that deep down, somewhere, we still loved each other.
Now, life has been much better since I got medicated for depression back in 2004. The wife and I get along alot better, I see things clearer, and I am able to steer away from trouble much better than I used to.
In truth, I can say that I have everything I have ever wanted. I have a wonderful, extraordinary wife; three terrific kids, and a job I love. Those are things that matter, and no one can take them away from me.
So petty words from a distant miserable human being really don’t matter. They are like the wind created from the beat of butterfly wings, inconsequential.

Laws Optional for Rendell, Political Elite
One glaring problem of the pay raise and other scandals is the arrogant attitude of political leaders that the Constitution and the laws they enact for ordinary citizens don’t apply to themselves.
He’ll Drink to That. Last week Gov. Ed Rendell provided another example of this attitude in an interview with KDKA radio’s Marty Griffin. The two were talking about the potential effect on neighborhood taverns and restaurants of the newly enacted 10% drink tax in Allegheny County, which supports public transportation. Hear the interview at www.kdka1020.com and click on “Marty Talks to Gov. Rendell-EXCLUSIVE” on the right side.
Rendell sought to allay the fears of neighborhood taverns and small restaurants in the land of the Whiskey Rebellion by making an astounding admission about enforcement of Philadelphia’s drink tax:
Rendell: “In the neighborhood taverns where, you know, it might have had an effect, let me say we have selective enforcement.”
Griffin: “You have selective enforcement. What do you mean, sir?”
Rendell: “We don’t quite enforce in the neighborhood taverns as well as we do in the big hotels and restaurants.”
Griffin: “You look the other way, sir?”
Rendell: “You can say that.”
Defending selective enforcement, Rendell acknowledged the Constitution’s “uniformity clause” , which requires all taxes to be applied the same on everyone wherever a tax is imposed. But bizarrely, Rendell then claimed that because it’s unconstitutional to have a law that treats the same kinds of businesses differently, he simply decided to ignore the Constitution.
“We put most of our enforcement resources where we’re going to get our biggest return, and that’s in the big restaurants and hotels downtown,” Rendell told Griffin.
Among the many problems of selective enforcement is that it can turn honest people into criminals. It is a crime to collect a tax and fail to give it to the government that imposes it.
Questions for Rendell:
- If a tax is not going to be transmitted to Allegheny County (or any other government that imposes a tax), why should citizens pay it? Who gets the money?
- If the tax is supposed to support public transportation in Allegheny County, what happens when public transportation doesn’t get the tax money? Does Allegheny County call on state taxpayers for more support?
- What does a local bar have to do to get enforcement officers to look the other way?
Speaking of the Constitution. Here’s the oath all public officials take: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity.” Article VI, Section 3 .
Sometimes you wonder whether the public officials who take an oath to obey the Constitution have actually read it. Recently a DR Fan asked Rep. Martin Causer, R-McKean, whether he had attended legislative session on the first Tuesday of January this year, as required by the Constitution.
According to the fan, Causer said he was told he didn’t have to show up for session and wondered what the point would be since they wouldn’t do anything even if he had been there. Last week, DR called Causer to remind him of Article II, Section 4 and offered to talk with him about it. Causer didn’t return the call.
Of course, Causer wasn’t alone. On the first Tuesday of January this year, only 7 out of 203 Representatives showed up for work, and only 17 of 50 Senators showed up.
Questions:
- If the Constitution says they have to be there, why can’t they also do some work instead of continuing their two-month, all-expenses-paid vacations? Where’s the new open records law we were promised in January, for example?
- Did Causer take an oath to obey Majority Leader Bill DeWeese, Minority Leader Sam Smith, R-Jefferson, Speaker Dennis O’Brien, R-Phila., or the Constitution?
Comment:
What’s so galling is that these are the very people to whom we have given the power to change the law if they, or we, don’t like it. They, and only they, can propose to amend the Constitution and enact different laws if they think current laws are unfair.
But they don’t do that. Instead, they arrogantly violate their oaths. Have they no integrity? Have they no shame?
Why do those who still have integrity and feel the shame of dishonesty sit by and let such things happen? Why don’t they stand up and raise hell?

Cover Story

The 1979 Egyptian/Israeli Peace Treaty is based on having a demilitarized, non-threatening Sinai between the two countries.
Israel is not allowed to move its forces into the Sinai, and Cairo is not permitted to move additional Egyptian forces into the area. The “Multinational Force and Observers” patrols the Sinai, ensuring that the terms of the Peace Agreement are not violated by either of the two countries.
What has now happened is that, under the smoke screen cover story of the “humanitarian crisis”, the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists have broken out of Gaza and moved to establish their beachheads and footholds in Sinai. Egypt, Israel, and the MFO units are now threatened by dangers that the terms of the Peace Agreement never envisioned… and to which the Peace Agreement would seem to prevent their responding.
I wonder when the main stream media will discover the real story?
What’s your guess?

Mary Jo Kopechne is still unavailable for comment.
Rejecting a last-ditch effort by former president Bill Clinton, Sen. Edward Kennedy firmly bestowed his family blessing on Illinois Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
“I’m proud to stand with him here today and offer my help, offer my voice, offer my energy, my commitment to make Barack Obama the next president of the United States,” Kennedy boomed to an even louder crowd at the American University in Washington D.C.
“In Barack Obama, I see not only the audacity, but the possibility of hope that America has yet to be,” Kennedy continued.
And in a thinly veiled blast at the Clinton campaign, without naming the rival candidate, Kennedy said: “With Barack Obama, we will turn the page on the old politics of misrepresentation and distortion. … We will close the book on the old politics of race against race, gender against gender, ethnic group against ethnic group, and straight against gay.” Kennedy has been critical of the Clinton campaign for injecting racial issues into the campaign.
For the love of scotch whiskey, you’d think that ba-”Rock Star” Obama was the second coming of Jesus Christ himself to hear Teddy Kennedy tell it.
As near as I can tell, Obama is the feel good candidate. He makes you feel good, but he has no substance behind his message of hope.
He’s a democrat, so I won’t vote for him… he stands for illegal immigration, government provided health care, higher taxes, and weak foreign policy.
At the same time, he could have John McCain be his Vice President.

This week’s ‘Alpha Jackass’ award
“It’s OK, I’m for tax rebates-put some money in people’s pockets, though it has to be structured in the right way.” -Hillary Clinton, who thinks that the government is akin to the tooth fairy [Highlights added. ---Ed]
+++++++++++++
From the Left: The Clinton Chronicles continue
Former President Bill Clinton told the media that he personally witnessed voter intimidation by Culinary Workers Union supporters of Barack Obama at last week’s Nevada caucus. Obama and Hillary Clinton split Nevada with 13 and 12 delegates, respectively, which was probably what led to the baseless accusations of intimidation. After all, the Clintons believe that Hillary should just be anointed as the Democrat nominee, and any loss that she suffers must be the work of fraud. The Las Vegas press has yet to find any evidence of voter suppression or intimidation in the Nevada contest, and the Obama campaign has urged the Clintons to file complaints if they have evidence. Obama’s people certainly realize that the Clintons don’t work that way. For them, it’s not about evidence; it’s about what kind of story they can spread in the media. [Highlights added. ---Ed]
In another story, it appears Bill’s post-presidential work as a financial consultant for longtime supporter Ron Burkle, a billionaire investor, could net him a cool $20 million. Clinton was an adviser in Burkle’s Yucaipa investment group, which reaped hundreds of millions of dollars in profits from large domestic sales in recent months. Clinton has been looking to cash out of the deal to remove any potential conflicts of interest with his wife’s White House candidacy. The extent of Bill’s involvement with Yucaipa still remains unclear and, based on the Clintons’ history of questionable business dealings, is worthy of further public scrutiny. [Highlights added. ---Ed]
Bill and Hillary Clinton with “slum landlord” Tony Rezko

Hillary Clinton accused Barack Obama in the latest debate of “practicing law and representing your contributor, [Tony] Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner city Chicago,” a nasty shot that one could read as racially bigoted. Well, what do you know … a photo of Clinton with Rezko surfaced. Hillary pulled out the old standby “I don’t recall…” when questioned about it. “I probably have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures. I don’t know the man. I wouldn’t know him if he walked in the door.” Maybe true, but with Clinton, who knows? [Highlights added. ---Ed]
Butt, according to one of our staff comedians, this is what was going on behind the scenes:

Ok, I’m a bit of a gadget whore on occasion, especially when it comes to home theater stuff. I have two Sony 400 Disc Changers, one is full, the other is mostly full.
However, of the DVDs I own, only about 100 of them actually have the title built into the disc programming. So I have to use an excel file to keep track of all my movies. This annoys me.
What I would like to see, is some kind of a monster disc changer, that uses the Internet to (at a bear minimum) title the movies so you can find them easily. I know that a dvd movie database (like Gracenote/cddb) exists. It’s just a matter of writing some code for the device to do a lookup on the Disc-ID, vs the database.
If you created a PC based program to do the lookup it could use an IR, or a Bluetooth hardware interface. If it was to all run on the device, you could equip the device with a female network plug.
It would be really nice if you added some basic database features to the changer, so you could sort the movies by Genre, Rating, and Title. If you really want to go memory crazy, you could add actors to the list as well.
If you could print out a list of movies you own, that would be handy as well.

PATRIOT PERSPECTIVE
Patriot Profile: John McCain
By Mark Alexander
Now that the Republican ‘08 presidential candidate field is narrowing, I am going to risk the admiration and disdain of our Patriot readers by submitting a series of profiles on the remaining candidates, whilst holding out hope for a couple of convention wild cards if the primaries produce no clear choice.
The Patriot’s editors have already provided Presidential Candidate Ratings on our Patriot Policy Papers page. These ratings are based on comprehensive analysis of many factors-each candidate’s record, experience, capability, character, leadership qualifications and, of course, the candidate’s demonstrated ability to grasp the plain language of our Constitution-and promote it accordingly.
On that note, let’s start with some “straight talk” about John McCain, who posts a solid, and decidedly unflattering “5″ in our ratings. That is half way between Ronald Reagan and V.I. Lenin’s ignoble ranks of “useful idiots.”
This has been added 1/26/07 4:30 PM
I should have included this before. From what I read I like how he judged each candidate:
A candidate’s Patriot Rating is based on a comprehensive analysis of many factors — each candidate’s record, experience, capability, character, leadership qualifications and, of course, the candidate’s demonstrated ability to grasp the plain language of our Constitution — and promote it accordingly.
Partial list of candidates ratings:
Newt Gingrich Patriot Rating: 9
Fred Thompson Patriot Rating: 8
(The Patriot Post endorsed the candidacy of Fred Thompson six months before he entered the race. Read the Thompson endorsement and our comments on Thompson, the candidate.)
Duncan Hunter Patriot Rating: 7
(The Patriot Post has endorsed the candidacy of Duncan Hunter. Read the Hunter endorsement)
Mitt Romney Patriot Rating: 6
Hillary Clinton Patriot Rating: 0 [You CAN'T GET LOWER than this! ZERO!]
Barack Obama Patriot Rating: 0
To see his comprehensive criteria, not just one or two issues, and the other candidates click here: 2008 Presidential Candidate Ratings
[But no matter how you slice it any Republican Candidate is 10 X's better than any of the Democrats running! And 10 X's 0 is still Zero ---Ed]

The Bible is as current as this morning’s newspaper. Over the last two years the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said that with what he considers the victories of Hezbollah over Israel in Lebanon in the summer of 2006 and the withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza strip are the buttons that will start the destruction of the Jewish state of Israel. Also, World Net Daily reported on June 7 2007, that Syria, aided by Iran, has deployed a strengthened army along Israel’s northern border on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights and is prepared to launch a surprise war against the Jewish state, according to senior Israeli security officials. Syrian president Bashar Assad told his state-run media the past few months Damascus is preparing for war. In four major wars with the Arabs since Israel became a nation in 1948, Israel soundly defeated their enemies. The Arabs obviously aren’t reading the same Bible we read that says Israel will now forever remain a nation, but this raises some interesting questions. What does the survival of the nation of Israel have to do with God’s plan for salvation and what does it have to do with us?
About 4000 years ago, God determined to call out a special people for Himself through whom He would bring blessing to all the nations. Why did He select one man (Abraham) and one tiny nation (Israel) to accomplish this? Only God knows. In Genesis 12:3, God states, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you”. That should get our attention. We would sooner have God bless us than curse us. The agreement between God and Abraham is called a covenant. This was a very unusual arrangement. Normally a covenant is between two parties and binding on both for its fulfillment. In the Abrahamic covenant found in Genesis 12, God made unconditional promises to Abraham that required nothing of Abraham. The ceremony recorded in Genesis 15, to walk between pieces of slaughtered animals, says that God caused a sleep to fall upon Abraham so he would not be able to pass between the pieces. God alone moved between the halves of the animals, to show that He is the one who binds Himself to an unconditional covenant with no “if” clauses.
There are three main features to the Abrahamic covenant. First is the promise of land. God called Abraham from Ur of the Chaldees (about 200 miles southeast of the present city of Baghdad, Iraq), to a land that He would give him. The dimensions of this land are given, to preclude any notion of this being fulfilled in heaven some day. Second is the promise of descendants. God promised Abraham, who was 75 years old and childless, that He would make a great nation out of him, and that nations and kings would descend from him. This promise is expanded in the Davidic covenant of 2 Samuel 7 that would eventuate the Davidic throne with Messiah’s kingdom rule over the Hebrew people. Third is the promise of blessing and redemption. God promised to bless Abraham and the families of the earth through him. This promise is amplified in the New Covenant (Hebrews Ch:8) and has to do with “Israel’s spiritual blessing and redemption”. The unconditional and eternal nature of the covenant is reaffirmed to Isaac in Genesis 21 and further confirmed to Jacob in Genesis 28.
God’s method of fulfilling the Abrahamic covenant is literal, insomuch as God partially fulfilled it in history. God blessed Abraham by giving him the land, blessed him spiritually, and gave him numerous descendants. An important element, however, demands a future fulfillment with Messiah’s kingdom rule. Numerous Old Testament passages anticipate the future blessing of Israel and her possession of the land as promised to Abraham. Ezekiel 20 envisions a future day when Israel is restored to the land. Israel as a nation will find salvation and be restored (Romans 11) and will repent and receive the spirit of compassion from God in the future (Zechariah 12). The covenant finds ultimate fulfillment in connection with the return of Messiah to rescue and bless His people Israel. This will issue in the forgiveness of sins and Messiah’s glorious kingdom reign on earth.
The support of Israel is a biblically based mandate for every Christian. All other nations were created by an act of men, but God Himself established the boundaries of the nation of Israel. The Bible shows God as the protector and defender of Israel. Psalm 121 says that He never slumbers or sleeps in His watching over the nation of Israel. The prophet Zechariah said that the Jewish people are “the apple of God’s eye” Zechariah 2. Any nation that comes against Israel is, in effect, poking God in the eye – not a very wise thing to do! If God created Israel, if God defends Israel, if God considers Israel the apple of His eye, then it is logical to say that those who stand with Israel are standing with God. Every Christian should remember the debt of gratitude the Christian community owes to the Jewish community. The Jewish people do not need Christianity to explain their existence or their origin. But Christians cannot explain their existence without Judaism. It was the Jewish people who gave us the written Scripture. They gave us the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They gave us the disciples and the apostle Paul. The Jewish people gave to Christianity the first Christian family, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus – our Savior! If you take away the Jewish contribution to Christianity, there is nothing left. Geopolitically speaking, we should support Israel because it is the only true democracy in the Middle East. The tiny nation of Israel is surrounded by feudal states and brutal dictatorships that control vast regions of land and oil resources. The presence of the Israeli Defense Forces brings stability to that part of the world.

No, I’m not crazy…
Apparently Congress doesn’t think so.
I’m sorry I’m not laughing. I guess I should be. If this were a joke it would be funny.
Do many politicians leave their brains and common sense at home when the get elected????
Read this:
- My name is Jim Inhofe and I am the Senior U.S. Senator from Oklahoma.
Do you agree with me that English should be the official language of the United States?
For years now, it’s been a lonely fight in Washington to make English our nation’s official language. I have sponsored legislation in the Congress to make it official only to have it blocked by special interest groups and Democrat Senators. In fact many of my opponents on this issue try to claim that those who support official English are “bigots” or “anti-immigrant.” The fact is, recent polls show that 84% of all Americans — including 71% of Hispanics — support official English.
It is just commonsense.
If you moved to a foreign country – say Germany or Italy – wouldn’t you realize you needed to learn German or Italian in order to fully assimilate into that society?
