The Amish families plan no formal memorial services to mark tomorrow’s one-year anniversary of the West Nickel Mines Amish school shootings.
That does not mean they’re letting the date pass without notice.
This morning, the families of the students who attended the school, along with a host of special guests, gathered at a farm near the New Hope Amish school to mark the occasion with prayers, hymns and a barbecue.
Among the invited guests were State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller and a number of state police first responders to the shooting. Also among the guests were the provost of Virginia Tech University and family members of some of the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings.
“It certainly means a lot to spend some time with the families,” Miller said as he left the gathering. ”There is no place we’d rather be this morning than with them.”
